In Queensland the safety certificate is the same thing most people still call a roadworthy or RWC. You need a current one to sell a registered car, transfer it to a new owner, or re-register a vehicle. We make getting one simple by coming to the car.
Safety certificate or roadworthy, what's the difference?
None. They're the same document. Transport and Main Roads changed the official name to "safety certificate", but most sellers, buyers and mechanics still say "roadworthy" or "RWC". If someone asks for either, they mean the same certificate.
When do you need one?
You need a valid safety certificate in Queensland when you:
- Sell a registered car and transfer it to the buyer
- Transfer registration to a new owner
- Re-register an unregistered vehicle
- Bring a registered interstate vehicle into Queensland
Registration and a safety certificate are separate things. Even with current rego, you still need a certificate to transfer the car to a buyer.
What we inspect
A safety certificate checks the safety-critical parts of your car, not the whole mechanical condition. We inspect items including:
- Brakes
- Tyres and wheels
- Steering and suspension
- Lights and indicators
- Windscreen and wipers
- Seatbelts
- Body and structure (rust and damage)
It's a pass or fail against Queensland's minimum safety standard on the day, not a full health check of the car. If you want the deeper mechanical picture before buying, that's a pre-purchase inspection.
How long is it valid?
For a private seller, a Queensland safety certificate is valid for 2 months or 2,000 km, whichever comes first. It covers one sale or transfer only. If the car doesn't sell in that window, or you pass 2,000 km, you need a new inspection. Licensed dealers have different, shorter timeframes set by Queensland's Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).
If your car doesn't pass
If something doesn't meet the standard, we give you a clear list of what needs fixing. You can have the repairs done, then we re-inspect the car. We can carry out many of those repairs ourselves as a mobile mechanic, so you're not chasing separate businesses. If it doesn't pass, we talk you through what needs doing and sort the re-inspection with you, case by case.

The advantage of a mobile inspection is simple. We come to the car wherever it is, at home or at work, inspect it, and issue the certificate on site if it passes. Most inspections take around 30 to 45 minutes. You skip the drive to a workshop and the wait.
