Signs of an electrical or charging problem
- A battery or charging warning light on the dash
- Dim or flickering headlights and interior lights
- The car cranks slowly or clicks and won't start
- Electrical accessories (windows, radio, wipers) playing up
- A burning or hot electrical smell
- Repeated flat batteries with no obvious reason
Any of these is worth a test before it leaves you stranded.
Alternators
The alternator keeps your battery charged and runs the car's electrics while the engine is on. When it fails you'll often see the battery light, dimming lights, or a battery that keeps going flat even after a replacement. We test the charging output at your location and replace the alternator on site if it's failed.
Starter motors
If the engine won't crank and you hear a single click, or nothing at all, the starter motor is a common cause. It can also fail intermittently, starting fine one day and not the next. We test it against the battery and wiring so we're sure it's the starter before replacing it.
Warning lights and diagnostics
A warning light isn't always what it seems. We plug in, read the fault codes, and work out what's actually triggering the light rather than clearing it and sending you off. Some faults are a quick fix; others point to a sensor or a deeper issue we'll explain and quote. More on our car diagnostics page.
